While our guild is involved in making numerous charity quilts every year, it is not always possible to see first hand how much the quilts are appreciated. Tuesday, seven of our members were honored for their quilt-making efforts. (I was invited along to take photographs of the event.)
It all began several months ago when Jean Corley's daughter Gayle Corley was invited to help decorate the new
women's inpatient unit at the UAMS Psychiatric Research Institute in Little Rock. Gayle suggested hanging small quilts in each of the rooms.
When
asked where these quilts could be obtained, she of course thought of her
mother. Thus a quilt project was
born. Jean enlisted the aid of several guild members
and all were instructed on the specifications. The quilts all had to be 40” square and they
had to be made using pastel colors. The
hospital then had the quilts framed.
Ken
Hall, Director of the floor, took us on a tour of the rooms and each room was
decorated with original framed works of art that complemented the quilt in that
room. In the pictures below, you will
see the person who made the quilt and then a close up of the quilt. (Click on picture to enlarge it)
